VCT 3 - Committee
It is a pleasure to announce that we have formed the VCT-3 Committee for conducting the 3rd version of Virtual Chess Tournament - Thug Chess. People with proven experience in VCT 1 and VCT 2 are in the committee and we will gladly accept any help the rest of you can offer.
Coordinators – Jongs, Matcho
They are the main organizers of this tournament – VCT 3, and most likely for the next tournaments as well, unless they get engaged with other priorities of life.
So, please reach out to them for anything you need, be it any information or any help. Please also ensure that Coordinators are informed of everything that is happening in and around the tournament.
Some of the responsibilities of the coordinators in VCT 3 are –
- Registration of players for VCT 3. 24 players including the players from the previous tournament will be selected by the Coordinators for VCT 3.
- Collection of funds and formulating the prize money distribution. List of prize categories will be published at the start of the tournament.
- Circulating the Rules and Regulations at the start of the tournament.
- Categorization of the 24 players based on chess.com ratings.
- Preparing VCT 3 Groups and Schedule of matches. Flexibility in a schedule will be the decision of the Coordinators.
- Consulting with Technical Panel on a rematch appeal, if any match has been disrupted due to network issue. Decision of the Coordinators will be final on the possibility of a rematch.
- Coordinating the matches, including publishing the daily/match day schedule, initiating the matches and sharing the match result after each match.
- Distribution of prize money to the winners of each prize category.
- Ensure fair play in the tournament. Coordinators have the right to expel any player if found guilty.
Yes, that’s a lot. Because VCT 3 is going to be a long tournament, Coordinators may at times, require volunteers. If you wish to be a VCT Coordinator someday in future, this would be a right time to support as a volunteer and understand the workload first hand from our experienced campaigners.
Match Analyst - Bikash Sherpa
We all are eager to hear the expert comments on matches and moves from Bikashda, who will -
- Publish the match reports. Again, as this is going to be a long tournament, we can’t expect him to cover all matches. Hence the timing of the reports and the coverage of matches will be solely his decision. If any of you want your match to be covered, I would suggest you to contact him directly, maybe with some incentives. 😊
- Select the Auxiliary prize categories (Best comeback/best move etc) in the League matches. The auxiliary prize categories in the leagues, will be published upfront.
He will also continue to help the Coordinators to conduct the matches and his expert vigilance will be crucial to identify potential cheating by any players and govern fair play in the tournament.
Technical Panel – Sandy, Irfan
Our Technical Panel comprises of two very strong chess players who will be consulted for -
- Establishing the Rules and Points system and rules around equal Points (draw scenario for qualification) for the tournament.
- Any concern or queries related to rules of the game of Chess.
- Decision on rematch appeal.
- Identifying unfair play if any, in the tournament.
You can also take this opportunity to seek guidance on how to improve your game, or identify the mistakes in your games. VCT is not just a competition, it is an experience.
You have to be a Top Seed (highest rating above 1400 in chess.com) to be a member of the Technical Panel for future VCT.
The Tech Guy – Avik
I will help the Coordinators to ensure that the Tournament is conducted smoothly, with an eye towards potential improvements in future. I will be providing IT support where ever required and beautify the tournament as much as possible with -
- The VCT 3 app – An excel tool for maintaining the schedule and with automated solutions to update scores of each player at every stage of this tournament VCT 3.
- Update the VCT 3 app with match results and publish the results of the leagues as well as the finals.
- Publish blogs as and when required by the Coordinators like - the rules and regulations of the tournament etc or if required by Match Analyst to publish the match reports.
