VCT 3 - Tournament Structure

4 Groups will be formed based on seeding and random allocation. Seeding will be done based on -

Highest ever chess.com rating in rapid games or current rating (Depending on the login history of the player). There will be a date of registration for VCT 3. Rating on that day will be considered in case of current rating.

The Fighters:

8 players with lowest ratings will be identified as the “Fighters”. They will be distributed evenly in 4 groups through random allocation.
This categorization is done to ensure that our bottom ranked players are equally thrilled with the tournament. There will be prize categories exclusively for the top performers among the Fighters.
The Fighters will play an important role in the future 4^th edition of VCT as well, details of which will be published towards the end of VCT 3.

Top Seeds:

Players with chess.com rating (highest ever) above 1400 will be called the ‘Top Seeds’.
Top Seeds will also be distributed evenly among the 4 groups. This is done to ensure that we have more competitive matches at the knockout stages.
We have 4 Top Seeds for VCT 3, so each person will be in one group.
Top Seeds will play the most critical roles in the future 4^th edition of VCT.

Groups:

4 groups formed, each with – 1 Top Seed + 2 Fighters chosen randomly + 3 players chosen randomly.

First the Top seeds will be allocated in each group. Then the 8 Fighters will be placed randomly in 4 groups, and lastly the remaining 12 normal players will be allocated to the 4 groups randomly.

Group Leagues : (60 matches)

There will be League matches played within each group (5 matches for each player, 15 matches each group). Leagues are named as Red, Blue, Yellow and Green to bring some colors in our favorite black and white game.
